GETTING THERE

VISAS FOR INDIANS
Citizens of India need to have a valid visa for Switzerland. The visa application takes nearly 15 working days to be processed. One can apply for a Schengen visa through VFS Global.

You can experience cool weather in the northern alps and the opposite in the southern areas. January and February are the coolest and driest months, whereas July and August are the warmest and wettest months. The best time would be between the months of September and December.

Getting Married in Switzerland
Legal Requirements & Documentation
Swiss marriage law requires both the parties to be above 18 years of age, not be already married, and the consent of a legal guardian. Foreigners getting married in Switzerland should get prior approval which involves submission of documents such as:
1. A photo ID that fulfills the official Swiss requirements,
2. A birth certificate which should be issued 6 months prior to the wedding and should disclose the name of the parents,
3. Passport,
4. A notarized affidavit that should state the person's current marital status as well as his address,
5. A copy of divorce decree or the death certificate of the spouse if previously married,
6. A marriage request form which should be complete.
Once these documents are submitted, an approval is usually received within 5 weeks. After receiving the approval in writing, the couple can get married within 10 days to 3 months of the date of approval.
The couple must conduct a civil marriage with two witnesses in the Registry Office before conducting any religious ceremonies. Religious ceremonies can only be conducted once the civil marriage is done and a marriage deed arrives.

A tradition of log sawing is practiced primarily in the Swiss-German regions.
As the newlyweds exit their wedding celebration, they’re presented with a log blocking their path. In order to pass, the couple must saw the log in half with a two-handled saw!
This is a symbol of the couple’s ability to work together in order to overcome any obstacle they may encounter in their married life.
